The 2025 Silverado ZR2 - A Truck Designed for the Road

Chevrolet created the Silverado ZR2 with rugged off-road driving in mind, whether it be a local trail in the Pacific Northwest or desert running in SoCal. With this in mind, the ZR2’s exterior was designed to make clearing obstacles easier than you may sometimes run into with a Ford Raptor or Ram TRX due to the added width on both of these rivals.

With both front and rear differentials locked, the Silverado makes easy work of climbing over any obstacles in its way on the trail, with direct low-effort steering making it easy to place your tires and avoid puncturing the 33 inch tires. Setting the ZR2’s drive selector to Terrain Mode allows for even easier navigation on the most difficult of trails with the truck automatically applying the brakes after you let off the gas. Additionally, the truck’s multitude of high quality cameras will become one of your best tools while off-roading, acting as an impromptu spotter to make sure that you avoid damaging the truck while plotting through more difficult terrain.

Chevrolet also looked to improve the approach angle, departure angle and breakover angle of the Trail Boss performance package by improving the truck’s ability to smoothly drive over obstacles without impeding itself. For example the ZR2 boasts a departure angle of 23.3 degrees, an excellent breakover angle of 23.4 degrees and an impressive approach angle of 31.8 degrees, both of which are only bested by the Ford Raptor on optional 37s.

As we have mentioned earlier, the Silverado ZR2’s Multimatic spool-valve shocks are the most notable upgrade when comparing it to the lower spec Trail Boss, allowing for amazing performance both on and off the road. While driving around town, you’ll notice the suspension creating a comfortable ride that will make you forget that you're riding in a truck at all. When taken off-road, the Multimatic shocks show their full potential, masterfully handling the roughest terrain while keeping the truck planted where you want it to be. And with two more inches of suspension travel front and rear with the addition of hydraulic bump stops, the Silverado makes easy work of hard landings with little drama involved.
